September 18, 2018 Dear Parent/ Guardians and South Eastern School District Staff, This year, as in all years, our buildings, grounds, and custodial staff take a very proactive approach in ensuring that our buildings are safe and clean.   Each year and throughout the year, the district will complete air quality tests, preventative maintenance for our air-handling units as well as employ a thorough cleaning to ensure the overall quality of our school buildings.  Our buildings and grounds staff as well as our custodians monitor the buildings on a very current basis to ensure that all system function in a proper manner. Today there was a dirt type substance discovered on the wall inside the Technology Server Room of South Eastern Middle School.  As a precaution and preventative measure, PROAC Corporation was notified of the substance.  PROAC determined that the substance is mold.   The room is unoccupied and completely encapsulated with masonry walls to the roof.  As a result it is isolated from any student or staff areas in the building.  This server room has an independent temperature control system (air system).  PROAC believes that because of the encapsulation and independent temperature control system (air system), there is no safety concern for our students or staff. PROAC will complete the mold remediation this weekend.  PROAC Corporation employees are trained to deal with residential and commercial duct cleaning, coil restoration, industrial cleaning, video inspections, HVAC maintenance and indoor air quality issues through industry education and accreditation.     As always, the safety of the students and staff is our foremost concern.  We write this correspondence to so that everyone can understand the process used in order to make the best possible decision for the children of our school district. Should you have any specific questions, please contact Mr. Brian McCleary (South Eastern School District, Director of Buildings and Grounds) at 717-382-4843 or mcclearyb@sesd.k12.pa.us Sincerely, Jeffrey Hughes Superintendent-South Eastern School District.

This evening South Eastern School District was alerted to a social media post of school violence on Twitter.  In conversation with the Southern Regional Police Department, South Eastern School District was told of a social media post on Twitter stating there would be a shooting taking place on February 22, 2018 at 12 pm at Southern Middle School In Southern York County School District. Southern Regional Police Department in York County began an investigation to determine the source of this threat.  The suspect responsible for this post was identified during the investigation.  The threat was deemed not credible and steps were taken to insure the schools and public safety.   During the course of the investigation, a second post was identified on Twitter and found to be created by the same suspect.  At this time there is no threat to the school or to South Eastern School District and police will continue to investigate.  Pennsylvania State Police has offered to have state troopers visit our campus and outlying schools today. There is no threat but we have welcomed the support and visibility of the state police.  Mr. Hughes. Jeffrey D. The South Eastern School District wishes to address the recent press release from the Pennsylvania State Police pertaining to a Kennard-Dale High School student who was found in possession of weapons, in school, on Thursday, February 15, 2018. Prior to the State Police’s involvement, the School District Administration was alerted to the student concern and immediately took steps to address the conduct and ensure that the school campus was safe.  The District’s normal protocol was followed, and this included the notification of the Pennsylvania State Police and cooperating with any investigation that they pursue.  The School District administration is also addressing the student’s conduct pursuant to  the School District’s Board Policy, Student Code of Conduct, and State and Federal Law, as it does with any weapons violation that occurs on campus.   The involved student is not permitted to be on campus.  The District takes the presence of weapons on campus seriously.  And, the School District works closely with the parents/ guardians of any student involved in a disciplinary issue on campus. If parents or students are concerned about safety anywhere on their  school campus, they should contact their building principal or the School District Superintendent, Mr. Hughes. Jeffrey D.
