Introduction:

  • This web quest will help you explore chemical reactions with more details.  You must be willing to follow any linked vocabulary words or suggested web links.  If you get into cyber-space and can't find your way back, just start over in the process.

  • Good Luck with your mission.  If you find any dead ends/links or mistakes, please email me.

Task:
  • Create a set of information cards, containing the following information:
  • Begin exploring mixtures, more specifically solutions.  What makes a mixture a solution?  Where can solutions be found?  What are the parts of a solution?
  • Compare the characteristics of Acids. Bases, and Salts.  What makes a substance an acid?  a base?  a salt?  What is a neutralization reaction?
  • Identify when a chemical reaction takes place.  What are the four signs of a chemical reaction?  What are the parts of a chemical equation?  How is energy exchanged during a chemical reaction?  What factors affect the rate of a reaction?
  • Recognize the basic characteristics of ionic and covalent bonds.  What is an ionic bond?  What is a covalent bond?  What happens to electrons during the bonding process?
  • Once information is gathered, create an organization system to be able to access the information easily by a student in forth grade.  The information must be simply written with examples.
